How it works here

Working to Canada practice.

Canada has no single national BIM mandate. Requirements come from the owner, the project and sometimes the province, so the most useful thing we can do is read the project's own documents closely and build to them.

We work with Canadian architectural, engineering and contracting teams on new build and renovation projects, producing models for coordination and construction, and as-built models from scans for existing buildings.

Standards and requirements

What matters here.

Requirements differ by project and owner. Treat this as a guide and send us your project’s own documents: they govern.

1

Owner-specified BIM

Public and institutional owners publish BIM guidelines for their projects. We build to the guide the project names.

2

buildingSMART Canada

The national chapter of the openBIM body publishes guidance and promotes IFC exchange.

3

Level of Development

The BIMForum LOD Specification is widely used. We confirm LOD per element before work begins.

4

Codes

The National Building Code of Canada and provincial codes apply to the design. We model what the engineer of record has designed.

Units and conventions

Metric is standard in practice, with imperial still common in parts of the industry. We set up the project the way your team works.

Working hours

Similar to the US: overnight production with a written daily handover, and calls booked when needed. Eastern teams get a morning update; Pacific teams receive it the previous evening, their time.

Time-zone note

Hours assume a 09:30 to 18:30 IST working day, which Sactik will confirm. Daylight saving moves the overlap by an hour.

Typical workflow

How a project runs.

  1. 01Share the owner's BIM guide and your template
  2. 02We confirm LOD, units and naming in writing
  3. 03Overnight production with a daily note
  4. 04Coordination rounds on the dates your schedule sets
