BIM outsourcing for US projects

Imperial units, AIA LOD definitions, and an overnight production cycle.

How it works here

Working to United States practice.

US teams typically specify the Level of Development to the BIMForum LOD Specification, work in feet and inches, and coordinate through Revit and Navisworks. Many run tight preconstruction schedules in which a day matters.

Sactik's working day sits mostly in your night. That is the point of the arrangement: you send updates in the evening, and the model is ready when your team arrives in the morning. A written handover note each day keeps everyone aligned.

Standards and requirements

What matters here.

Requirements differ by project and owner. Treat this as a guide and send us your project’s own documents: they govern.

1

LOD Specification

The BIMForum Level of Development Specification, from LOD 100 to 500 including 350, is the common language for what a model element contains. We state LOD per element category before we start.

2

National BIM Standard

NBIMS-US sets out a framework for open information exchange. Owners and agencies add their own requirements on top.

3

Owner and agency guides

Federal and state owners such as the GSA publish BIM requirements. We work to the guide the project names.

4

Classification

OmniClass and UniFormat appear in many US models and schedules. We apply what the project specifies.

5

Reality capture

For scan work, the USIBD Level of Accuracy specification states how closely a model must follow the scan.

Units and conventions

Imperial (feet and inches), with US sheet sizes and conventions, or metric if the project asks.

Working hours

Little live overlap: our 09:30 to 18:30 IST day is roughly 23:00 to 08:00 US Eastern. Work is organized as an overnight cycle with a written daily handover, and a scheduled call at an hour that suits both sides when needed.

Time-zone note

Hours assume a 09:30 to 18:30 IST working day, which Sactik will confirm. Daylight saving moves the overlap by an hour.

Typical workflow

How a project runs.

  1. 01Send drawings and mark-ups at the end of your day
  2. 02We work through your night
  3. 03You receive the update, a model-health note and open questions at the start of your day
  4. 04Calls are booked when decisions need discussion

Questions

United States, answered.

How do you handle the time difference?

Production runs while you sleep. We send a short written handover with what was done, what is blocked and what we need decided.

Can you model in imperial units?

Yes. We set the project up in the units and standards your team uses.

Do you work from AIA LOD definitions?

Yes. The BIMForum LOD Specification, including LOD 350 and 400, is how we describe the detail of each element.
